Apex Assist
Apex Assist
The most compact design available providing maximum space possible for loading the wheelchair/scooter. With a range of two lifting capacities, 100kgs and 150kgs the Apex Assist can lift a wide range of scooters and powerchairs into the boot of your vehicle.
The Apex Assist helps to increase the independence of the user by removing the requirement for somebody to physically lift the wheelchair/scooter into the boot of a vehicle.
It works very intuitively as a 4-way powered hoist. This means that it will take most of the effort of loading a scooter/wheelchair off of the user as it lifts up/down, and moves in/out of the vehicle. The hoist can easily be operated by the wheelchair/scooter user themselves.
The Apex Assist is powered by the 12 volt vehicle battery and contains as standard an isolation switch within its controls. This means that when the hoist is powered off, no drainage is placed on the vehicle's battery. This unique design feature lends itself the robust reliability of the Apex Assist.
Additional Features
The boot hoist attaches to the wheelchair/scooter via specifically installed lifting points. Using the remote control, the hoist arm lifts the wheelchair/scooter and moves it into the vehicle whilst being guided by the user. The wheelchair/scooter is then lowered onto the boot floor and stowed for the journey.
The handset itself has four buttons on the front face which operate the hoist in the following way:
UP – this will raise the hoist arm
DOWN – this will lower the hoist arm
IN – this will laterally rotate the hoist arm into the vehicle
OUT – this will laterally rotate the hoist arm out of the vehicle
These buttons are momentary and so will only operate the actuator motors when pressed and held on. When the buttons are released the actuators will stop working and there will be no more movement of the hoist arm.

This is one of the most common questions we get asked here at Des Gosling Mobility, and the easiest way to find out is to simply contact us and ask. Our staff are familiar with all different types of scooters and cars, and can usually give you an answer straight away. If you would like to figure out for yourself if a scooter will fit inside a car then have a look at this quick guide below:
- Decide whether or not you are willing to lose two back seats of the car. If you are then you can load the scooter lengthways and usually don’t need to worry about the width or length of the scooter.
- Decide whether you want to load the scooter unfolded, folded, or seat off. Generally you would have to load the scooter folded or seat off, depending on the height of the boot.
- Take measurements of the car boot and the scooter, or search for them online (you can generally find the scooter dimensions on the manufacturer’s website).
- Remember to account for the size of the hoist (add about 5 inches for the height and 6 inches for the width).
- Make some calculations and you should be able to figure out if the scooter will fit into the boot of the car
The Motability Scheme provides an affordable, worry-free way for people with disabilities to lease a car, scooter or powered wheelchair in exchange for their mobility allowance.
