What is a wheelchair winch assist?

A wheelchair winch assist is a powered pulling system that helps draw a wheelchair up a ramp into a vehicle. This reduces the effort needed by the wheelchair user or carer, particularly on steeper ramps or with heavier powered wheelchairs.

When would a winch assist be needed?

Winch assists are helpful when ramps are steep due to vehicle height, when the wheelchair is heavy, when the user or carer lacks the strength to push up the ramp, or when independent access is important for powered wheelchair users.

How does the winch attach to the wheelchair?

The winch connects via a strap or hook to a strong point on the wheelchair frame. We'll identify suitable attachment points for your chair and demonstrate proper connection.
